TOWN OF ALMA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
July 16, 2025
All Board members present:
Meeting called to order by Chairman Flick at 7:00 PM.
Minutes from June 18, 2025 were read into the record. Motion by Mat Murray, second by Tom Gearing to approve the minutes as read. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s report: Current balance $258213.88 less $86,000.00 reserved for equipment, 9,225 building reserve for a cash on hand balance of $162,788.88. Motion by Gearing, second by Murray to approve report. Motion carried.
Motion by Murray, second by Gearing to authorize payments for the month. Motion carried.
Citizen comments: Bill Laurent commented on 2024 Jackson County Culvert funds still available. Up to $200,000 available throughout the county.
New Business:
- Road report- Carol Rd chip seal and double chip seal completed. E Snow Creek-1 mile, W Gilbert Rd and Prindle Rd from Beede Rd to corner by Chuck Risch single chip seal completed by Fahrner.Dan reported on activity for the month.
- Equipment update-wiring issue fixed on 2010. Transmission still needs attention.
- Plow and sander will be discussed at next Town board meeting.
- Motion by Murray second by Gearing to amend agenda include Discuss/act on ATV/UTV use in the Town. Motion carried. Discussion on proposal: Karl Miller spoke about the positive impacts of ATV/UTV use in the County and their impact on tourism dollars. Concluded his statement with request to open all roads within the Town of Alma. Shari Ripp shared petition statting opposition to the request. Steve Gress shared concerns due to excessive noise and concerns about increased traffic over and above the current non-approved ATV/UTV use. Rick Poff shared Town of Komensky experience since opening their roads. Bill Laurent shared information with the Board relative to accident reports in the County. 2 in June and a total of 30 in 2024. Also shared there is 1 officer designated by the County in addition to DNR personnel to deal with ATV/UTV accidents/complaints. He also explained to unique characteristics of trails, routes and connectors. He also shared what County is doing to expand the existing trail system in the County. Shelly from Doc’s Bunkhouse shared the confusion when roads between Towns are open/closed. Representative from Curran shared their experience-went to referendum and passed. Tom Gearing shared his experience with riders on E Snow Creek Rd. After discussion Motion by Mat Murray, second by Brian Flick to open Town roads to ATV/UTV traffic. Flick-yes, Murray-yes, Gearing-no. Motion carried. Clerk will draft ordinance and resolution to be acted on at August 20, 2025 meeting.
Motion by Murray, second by Gearing to adjourn. Adjourned at 8:27 PM.
